Ageing of the skin
Skin ageing is a non-reversible natural evolutionary process.
There is no right age to start preventing skin ageing and it is important to take care of one’s skin in the right manner. Skin ageing is a natural process, but it is even more important to know that with the appropriate remedies and a healthy lifestyle, one can reduce and control the process of ageing and thus, the onset of wrinkles. When the body starts ageing, many signals are translated into visible changes on the skin: dehydration, weakening of the skin, blotches, broken capillaries, fat loss and muscle relaxation and finally the increase of wrinkles and furrows on the skin of the face, or as we call them more commonly, expression lines.
Skin wrinkles: What they are and the causes
Wrinkles are one of the consequences of ageing of the body. But ageing is not the only factor contributing to wrinkles: our lifestyle and bad habits greatly affect our health and the state of our skin’s youth. Smoking, alcohol, stress or lack of sleep are all factors that contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Exposure to the sun’s UV rays also has a great effect on wrinkle formation. And finally, our genetics also play their part. Time, lifestyle and external factors all contribute to reducing the quantity of collagen and the elastin produced by the body, which in turn leads to less elasticity and tonicity in the skin: this is when wrinkles appear. Collagen is produced in the middle layer of the skin (the dermis), where it strengthens the connective tissues in the form of fibres. What appears from the outside as wrinkles therefore originates from the middle layer of the skin.
How to slow down skin ageing
The skin is the part of the body that emphasises the passage of time the most. In some more sensitive areas, the signs of ageing are more evident than in other parts. By these, we mean the face and neck
For some types of skin, ageing manifests itself with the appearance of wrinkles, while others will show a loss of tonicity and elasticity or maybe even troublesome blemishes. Today, a healthy lifestyle as well as taking marine collagen and hyaluronic acid based supplements for the skin can help prevent wrinkles and tone the skin. In order for it to be effective, the anti-ageing treatment must be consistent and will work even better if taken as a preventive measure. This is why ESI’s laboratories have created a line of supplements that work from the inside and contain a formula enhanced with marine collagen, hyaluronic acid and antioxidant ingredients to increase skin elasticity and smooth out wrinkles.
